What decision does this help answer?
How many failed requests can this product tolerate this month before breaching its reliability objective?
Calculation and methodology
A success-rate service level objective sets a failure fraction of 1 − target success rate. Multiply it by monthly eligible requests to derive the error budget. Compare the observed failures with this allowance, calculate spent and remaining budget and estimate a simple current-period burn ratio. Optional alert fractions define a warning point.
Limitations and responsible interpretation
Do not mistake a simple monthly success-rate budget for a complete SRE burn-rate alert. Instrument successful user outcomes consistently, exclude intentionally ineligible requests and measure latency, quality and severe incidents separately. Product-specific policies override illustrative thresholds.
